February 5, 2023Short History :
Benito Antonio Martnez Ocasio, better known by his stage name Bad Bunny, is a Puerto Rican singer and composer who was instrumental in popularising trap and reggaeton music. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on March 10, 1994. Rock, punk, and soul were among the styles he mixed into his urban music.
He started singing when he was young, and after posting an internet photo of himself as a kid wearing a bunny outfit and looking gloomy, he decided on the stage moniker Bad Bunny. Under that identity, he started a Twitter account, and as his fame grew, it remained. Bad Bunny studied audiovisual communication at the University of Puerto Rico in Arecibo. He produced reggaeton and trap music, which he worked on at night. While the latter concentrates on urban issues like drugs and violence and uses synthesised snare drums and cymbals to create an upbeat beat, the former is a style of Spanish-language rap fused with reggae.
Early Career :
Bad Bunny started uploading tracks to SoundCloud, a global audio network where users may share music. Bad Bunny’s “Diles” (“Tell Them”) was found by Puerto Rican music producer DJ Luian, who in 2016 signed him to the label Hear This Music. Almost soon after releasing “Soy peor” (“I’m Worse”), Bad Bunny rose to fame. He released several singles in 2017 both independently and in collaboration with other musicians. The song “Sensualidad,” which included Bad Bunny, Colombian artist J Balvin, and Dominican singer Prince Royce who was born in the United States, deserves special mention.

Music Collaborations :
Bad Bunny worked with Cardi B and J Balvin on the song “I Like It” in 2018. The song, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Top 100 and made Bad Bunny more well-known in the US, has him rapping in both Spanish and English. He collaborated with Drake on “Ma” (“Mine”) later that year, which peaked at number five on the Billboard Top 100. At the end of 2018, Bad Bunny, whose name is an acronym for por sempre, or “forever,” released his debut studio album, X 100PRE. The album, which includes “Ma” and 14 other tracks, is a mashup of several genres, including pop-punk, hip-hop, electro, and dembow (a Jamaican musical rhythm).
The collaborative album Oasis by Bad Bunny and Balvin was released in 2019 and combined Latin American, African, and other beats. Bad Bunny gave a performance at the Super Bowl halftime show in early February 2020. Later same month, he released the successful party music album YHLQMDLG, which stands for Yo hago lo que me da la gana or “I do whatever I want.” When YHLQMDLG won for best Latin pop or urban album, Bad Bunny received his first Grammy Award. El ltimo tour del mondo (“The Last World Tour”), his third solo album, was released before the end of 2020. It became the first album in Spanish to enter at the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Bad Bunny’s breakthrough continued with the number one debut of Un verano sin ti (2022; “A Summer Without You”). The album, like his earlier works, featured a fusion of diverse genres, and several of the tracks were joint efforts with independent musicians.
