Govinda was born on December 21, 1963 in Virar, Maharashtra, India. His father, Arun Ahuja, was an actor who appeared in Bollywood films in the 1940s and 1950s. Govinda’s mother, Nirmala Devi, was a homemaker. Govinda has two siblings, a brother, Kirti Kumar, and a sister, Padma Sharma.
Govinda began his acting career in 1986 with the film Ilzaam. He went on to star in several successful films, including Coolie No. 1, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Saajan Chale Sasural, and Dulhe Raja. For his performance in Haseena Maan Jayegi, Govinda won the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. He also won the Filmfare Special Award for Saajan Chale Sasural.
In addition to his acting career, Govinda has also been involved in politics. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, in 2004 on a Congress ticket. He served as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) for one term.
Govinda is married to Sunita Ahuja. They have two children, a son, Yashvardan Ahuja, and a daughter, Tina Ahuja.

Govinda in 1989 was an upcoming superstar who played a young boy with anger and was mostly seen fighting to change the system. He was an action hero. He also had 3-4 music numbers in all films and his leading ladies were also very popular. He was trying to find his niche in this era.
Though all movies were commercial success a few superhits from Govinda this year were Do Qaidi, Jung Baaz and Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni which made Govinda a Superstar. Jaisi karni waisi bharni especially was a huge success. It revolves around a young Govinda who finds out his father had conspired against his beloved grand father and thrown him out of his house. He then teaches his father a lesson on how time goes around and everyone has to face their own Karma. It is still a cult movie in many ways.
