March 11, 2023On April 13, 1956, Satish Kaushik was born in Mohindergarh, Haryana, India. He was raised in a middle-class family with four siblings and a tailor for a father. After completing his education at Delhi’s DAV School, he attended Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, to earn his degree.
Satish Kaushik attended the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi to pursue acting studies after earning his degree. He made acquaintances with upcoming Bollywood actors Anupam Kher and Om Puri there.
Shanu Kaushik is the name of his son with Shashi Kaushik. In some of his father’s movies, Shanu, who is also a member of the entertainment industry, served as an assistant director.
Early Career – 1978-1990
As a theatre performer in Delhi in the 1970s, Satish Kaushik began his career in the entertainment sector. He appeared in a number of plays while working with the well-known theatre company Sambhav.
He relocated to Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) in the 1980s to pursue a career in movies. He appeared in a supporting part in the 1983 movie “Masoom” to make his acting debut. He continued to play supporting parts in movies like “Mr. India” (1987), “Ram Lakhan” (1989), “Kaalia” (1981), and others.
In the hit movie “Mr. India” from 1987, Satish Kaushik played the role of “Calendar,” a charming and hilarious guy. Anil Kapoor and Sridevi played the key parts in the Shekhar Kapur-helmed movie.
In the movie, “Calendar,” played by Satish Kaushik, works as a cook in the orphanage while “Arun,” played by Anil Kapoor, looks after the kids. He is portrayed as a foodie who enjoys eating and is constantly ravenous. He serves as the movie’s comic relief and is well known for song “Mera naam hai Calender, Lo mein chala kitchen ke andar”.
In the 1989 Subhash Ghai film “Ram Lakhan,” Satish Kaushik made his first significant breakthrough as a comic. He gained recognition for his comic timing in the movie and rose to prominence as a supporting actor in Bollywood.
Mid Life Career : 1990-2000
With the 1993 movie “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja,” starring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor, Satish Kaushik made his directorial debut. Even though it was one of the most expensive movies ever filmed in India, the movie didn’t do well at the box office. Satish Kaushik was able to improve his abilities as a filmmaker because to his expertise as a director.
Satish Kaushik rose to prominence as a director in Bollywood throughout the 1990s. The commercial success of “Prem,” his second film, which starred Sanjay Kapoor and Tabu, made him a director to keep an eye on. Both viewers and critics adored the romantic comedy that was the movie.

He also directed the criminal thriller “Karobaar: The Business of Love” (2000).
Throughout the 1990s, Satish Kaushik not only directed movies but also appeared in a number of popular ones, such as “Saajan Chale Sasural” (1996), “Deewana Mastana” (1997), and “Haseena Maan Jayegi” (1999). His comic timing and versatility in both serious and lighthearted parts made him well-known.
Satish Kaushik began making movies at this era as well. He directed and produced the 2003 smash film “Tere Naam,” which starred Salman Khan. The movie was a box office and critical hit and received numerous honours.
Career’s Last Leg – 2003-2023
Satish Kaushik resumed his career in Bollywood in the 2000s as an actor, director, and producer. He appeared in several popular films, including “Tashan,” “Brick Lane,” and “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi” (2004). (2008).
He directed the 2005 romantic thriller “Vaada,” which starred Arjun Rampal and Amisha Patel. In addition, he was the director of the comedy-horror movies “Gang of Ghosts” (2014) and “Milenge Milenge” (2010), both of which starred Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.
In the 2010 successful film “Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai,” starring Ritesh Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez, he served as producer. He also produced the 2016 movie “Udta Punjab,” which starred Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Kareena Kapoor and was about drug misuse in the Punjab region.
Satish Kaushik has acted in a number of Hollywood productions in addition to Bollywood, including “Brick Lane” (2007), “The Waiting Room” (2007), and “A Million Rivers” (2018). Also, he has appeared in “Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai” and “Sumit Sambhal Lega” among other well-known TV series.
Satish Kaushik has recently embraced digital media as well, acting in a number of online series like “The Last Call” (2019) and “Tandav” (2021). As an actor, director, and producer, he is still active in the business and is always working on new projects.
Last Days
Satish breathed hs last at a farmhouse in Delhi. He was visiting friends. His last rites were conducted in Varsova, Mumbai.
He was a very happy personwith lots of friends in the industry. His onscreen and off-screen friendship with Anil Kapoor and Anupam kher is fondest memories he has left behind. In the past year he appeared on a lot of tak shows and even posted a few videos on twitter and youtube.
He will always be remembered.
